Certification and Traceability in Antalya’s Fresh Produce Export

Certification and Traceability in Fresh Produce Export

In Antalya’s fresh produce export, the first question a buyer asks is rarely price. It is certification: how the crop was grown, what audits the facility has passed, and how far back the trail can be followed if something goes wrong. The answers live in the certificates.

GLOBALG.A.P. — the rule book for the field

GLOBALG.A.P. audits how a crop is grown. Its scope is wide: which plant protection product was used, when and in what quantity; analysis of the irrigation water; fertiliser records; worker hygiene during harvest; and a record of the plot each consignment came from.

Most European retail chains treat the certificate as a precondition. Produce from an uncertified grower will not reach the shelf, however good it is. The IFA version — Integrated Farm Assurance — covers fruit and vegetable production end to end.

GRASP works alongside it as a social assessment add-on, covering working conditions, occupational health and workers’ rights. European buyers increasingly ask for it separately.

ISO 22000 — food safety inside the facility

Once the crop leaves the field, responsibility passes to the packing house. ISO 22000 defines how food safety is managed there: hazard analysis, critical control points, the cleaning programme, staff training and the recall procedure.

The point of the certificate is not to describe a system on paper but to show, through records, that the system runs. When the auditor arrives, they look at cold room temperature logs, cleaning schedules and batch tracking registers.

ISO 9001 and ISO 10002

ISO 9001 is a quality management system: it requires processes to be defined, measurable and repeatable. ISO 10002 governs how customer complaints are handled — how a complaint is logged, how quickly it is answered, and what is done to stop it recurring.

Neither bears directly on food safety, but both matter to corporate buyers. In long-term contracts they demonstrate that the supplier works to a system rather than by habit.

Traceability: the real work behind the paperwork

Every certificate comes down to one question: where did this case come from? Traceability means being able to work backwards from a single case to the plot it was picked in, the day it was picked, the crew that picked it and the cold room it waited in.

When something goes wrong, that record decides the scope of the recall. A supplier with traceability recalls one batch; a supplier without it loses the whole shipment.

Certification at Hatipoğlu Tarım

Our facilities are certified to ISO 9001, ISO 22000 and ISO 10002. On the growing side we are audited under GLOBALG.A.P. IFA and GRASP. All audits are carried out by independent bodies at regular intervals.
