Apple Grannysmith

Granny Smith is the apple buyers ask for when shelf life matters. Deep green, high in acid, dense-fleshed — it holds its texture in storage longer than any other variety we pack, which is why it stays on our list from September through to early summer.

The acidity is also why it ends up in kitchens as often as in fruit bowls: it does not collapse when cooked. We grade for uniform green colour without blush, since a red cheek reads as over-ripe to most markets.
