Blueberries

Blueberries are packed the way they are sold: in the punnet the consumer will pick up. Sorting, weighing and closing all happen once, in the field-side packhouse, because every extra handling costs bloom — that pale waxy film that tells a buyer the fruit is fresh.

Small volume, high value, and unforgiving of warmth: berries go into forced-air cooling within the hour and stay between 0 and 2 °C until they reach the shelf. Air freight is the usual route.
