Watermelon

Watermelon season starts in February under plastic and runs to August in the open field. Diyarbakır and the Antalya plain between them cover the whole stretch.

Ripeness is read from the ground spot and the sound: creamy yellow where the melon sat, and a hollow note under the knuckle. Cut a day early and the flesh is pale and the buyer notices immediately.
